Felty's syndrome associated with high levels of IgA rheumatoid factor.

چکیده
A 64-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis developed Felty's syndrome. Her serum contained large amounts of IgA rheumatoid factor (RF) but insignificant levels of IgM-RF and IgG-RF. It is postulated that the high levels of IgA-RF may have contributed to the neutropenia.

Granulopoietic activity in Felty's syndrome.
The levels of urinary and serum granulopoietic factor have been determined in nine patients with Felty's syndrome and compared with similar levels in patients with rheumatoid arthritis without Felty's syndrome and patients with neutropenic disorders of other causes. These studies have shown that urinary and serum levels of colony stimulating activity (CSA) in patients with Felty's syndrome are ...
متن کاملFelty's Syndrome as an initial presentation of Rheumatoid Arthritis: a case report
INTRODUCTION Felty's syndrome is an uncommon but severe extra-articular manifestation of rheumatoid arthritis. Felty's syndrome is characterized by the triad of rheumatoid arthritis, neutropenia, and splenomegaly. The lifetime risk of Felty's syndrome for a rheumatoid arthritis patient is less than 1% and there are only few case reports of Felty's syndrome with neutropenia preceded clinical evi...
متن کاملIn vitro synthesis of immunoglobulin by rheumatoid synovial membrane.
A technique for the in vitro culture of rheumatoid synovial tissue with (14)C-amino acids and isolation and quantitation of the newly synthesized immunoglobulins has been developed. This technique has been used to compare immunoglobulin synthesis of 12 rheumatoid synovia with that of synovia from nonarthritic patients and with that of normal human lymph nodes and spleen. In addition, the spleen...
متن کاملFelty's syndrome presenting without arthritis.
A patient with splenomegaly, severe granulocytopenia and a strongly positive rheumatoid factor test initially had no clinical evidence of rheumatoid arthritis. Leukopenia responded to splenectomy and did not recur during one year of follow up. Symmetrical metacarpophalangeal joint swelling developed after nine months. This case emphasizes that arthritis may occasionally be a late and minor mani...
متن کاملTherapy of Felty's syndrome.
The incidence ofnormocytic hypochromic anaemia in rheumatoid disease is very high (Nilsson, 1948; Empire Rheumatism Council Scientific Advisory Committee, 1950; Jeffrey, 1952); while its aetiology is obscure, its severity appears to fluctuate with exacerbations of joint swellings (Kahlmeter, 1922; Nilsson, 1948). Occasionally the anaemia has the additional feature of a severe leucopenia, and if...
